Welcome!
Here at Garden State Tortoise we are proud to work with one of the rarest tortoises
available in the U.S.A., the Western Hermann's Tortoise (Testudo hermanni hermanni).
These small tortoises sometimes referred to as "dwarves", are an amazingly interesting
and rewarding species to experience and it is an honor to successfully keep and breed
them at our facility. My work with these extraordinary animals has been steadily increasing
over the last few years but it has been a life long goal and dream to be at this level. Here,
quite possibly the largest breeding group of Testudo hermanni hermanni in the United
States is maintained and bred yearly. My research and understanding of them is ongoing
and my dedication to providing them with the best care possible deepens each day. These
tortoises face an uncertain future in the wild and remain rare in collections today. On this
page you will find some of the best information possible as well as the largest photo
collection of this species on the net. I also offer 100% pure bred French and Italian
hatchlings yearly to others who are passionate about them. Please take a look around and
