| HELLO AND WELCOME! Garden State Tortoise is owned and operated by myself, Chris Leone, here in good old New Jersey. Throughout the years I have dedicated much of my life to the captive care, understanding and breeding of several different species of turtles and tortoises. Mediterranean tortoises as well as North American emydids are where my focus lies, with my main passion being aimed at the rare Western Hermann's tortoise (Testudo hermanni hermanni). Here, several species of chelonians are maintained and bred yearly, and I have been incredibly lucky enough to work some "one of a kind" animals especially a breeding group of Testudo hermanni hermanni from the island of Mallorca, in Spain. They are the only of their kind in the U.S.A today, and among other rare species kept here, they thrive and have even reproduced. This site is dedicated to the turtle and tortoise lover and is directed at those familiar with their care. One of my biggest reasons for creating this site is to educate the community about Testudo hermanni hermanni, its differences from other Hermann's tortoises and where it stands today in captive collections. Please be patient as I continue to work on this site and check back frequently! |
